Datum 3D Visualizer

Make absolute elevations and relative datum relationships visible together.

A level is also a relationship

This prototype explores a distinction that can disappear inside a list of elevation numbers: a datum can have an absolute position, or it can sit at an offset from another datum. The active interface presents a datum table beside an elevation drawing, so the same information can be read as structured values and as vertical relationships.

Despite the project name, the current working screen is an SVG elevation manager rather than an orbitable 3D model. Its scope is deliberately understandable through horizontal datum lines, names, elevation labels, and the dimensions between related levels.

Edit the reference, not just the number

Creating or editing a datum opens a form with a name, an Absolute Position switch, separate feet and inches fields, and a negative-value toggle. Switching away from absolute positioning reveals a reference-datum selector. The datum being edited is excluded from that selector.

The elevation calculation follows parent references and adds the relative offsets until it reaches an absolute datum. A change to a parent therefore changes the calculated elevation of its dependent datums. The drawing uses purple lines for absolute positions and blue lines for relative ones, with additional vertical dimensions showing the offsets to their references.

Keep the example inspectable

The elevation view adjusts its scale to the current datum range and includes padding around the drawing. This lets the relationships remain the center of the example as the values change. Edit and delete actions live with the datum list rather than in a separate modeling mode.

On the public GitHub Pages version, datum data is kept in browser storage. Deleting a referenced datum converts its immediate children to absolute positions while preserving their calculated elevations. This makes reference removal a concrete behavior to examine. The prototype demonstrates elevation dependencies; it does not establish a complete model-validation or building-coordination workflow.
